Volunteer Descriptions

Dinner help – Students typically practice after school and do not have a chance to go home between practice and preparing for the game, so we ask for volunteers to serve dinner. Band Boosters organize the main course, and typically deliver it. Volunteers can meet at the uniform room to prepare 1 cooler with assorted pop, and 1 cooler with water, then fill with ice in the main cafeteria. Volunteers can also bring down a couple boxes of chips and snacks for students. Students typically eat in the main cafeteria as well. Dinner time is at 4pm, so we ask volunteers to start getting drinks, chips, and snacks prepared around 3:30p

Uniforms – Call time the same as students or maybe 15 minutes earlier. Assist students with any question about their uniform or replacement items. Can also chaperone game if interested. After half time return to the uniform room to help make sure students to get their uniforms back in their bags on the racks. Will provide rain gear when needed.

Pit Crew – Call time 30 minutes before game. They move drum major podiums and other large items needed for performance. Move equipment back after half time show

Chaperones – Call time 30 minutes before game. We assist the front ensemble (pit) move instruments from band room to the fields. Students are much practiced at this activity however the directors prefer a parent is with each piece of equipment as support. We have to move quickly and do not want to have any accidents. During the game the band student play from the bleachers on the field. We stay with the students to provide water and supervision. Prior to the halftime show, students in color guard and front ensemble may return to band room. Someone will accompany them.

Competitions are typically an all day event that require a lot of hands on help. As the season progresses, the show will continue to change based on feedback from judges. Please note that the itinerary typically does not come out until the week before the event as the directors do not get the uniform from the host school until then.

Chaperones – Call time 30 minutes buses schedule to leave. We typically request about 6 chaperones. It is best to meet at the uniform room, and discuss who is doing what. We also ask that chaperones ride the bus with the students and carry an emergency book bag. They are in the uniform room and are clear. We also assist the front ensemble (pit) move instruments. We typically have to move quick, and want to prevent accidents.

Homecoming: The parade starts at PCHS, where all students will be dropped off. It is important to note that if students are running later than call time, they may have to walk a distance to get to the school as there are road closures. Also in order to park at the high school, you will have to have a parking pass. Passes are typically handed out to students and parade help.

Memorial Day: This parade typically starts off from Ira Jones Middle School. When students are dropped, it is suggested that all music cases stay in their car as the parade ends at Settlers Park. Parents can sit along the parade route or at Settlers Park where the Memorial Day ceremony and celebration will take place. This is the first time that 8th grades will have an opportunity to join the high school making band

Student Expectations

To eat breakfast! Please note that despite it typically being chilly in the morning, it warms up! Students exert a lot more energy during the parade than they think they will, and we do not want students having medical emergencies.
