Volunteer Descriptions

Parent-Provided Meals – Student and Staff BBQ on Friday #1, Family BBQ on Preview night (Friday #2)

Popsicles – Every day of band camp, we ask two families to purchase popsicles for the kids to enjoy during their dinner break(usually between 5-6pm).  You can purchase whatever popsicles that you want, enough for all students (approx. 120) and then help pass them out during the dinner break.

Savers Fundraiser – We ask for volunteers to sit at the band trailer each day during band camp at drop off time and pick up time as donations are being dropped off. Typically the weekend between the two weeks of band camp we ask for volunteers to pick up donations from a local church. Then the weekend after band camp, we deliver all of the donations at Savers in Orland Park for a profit to the band.

Things Needed for Marching Band Camp

  • Slide Oil (br) or Key Oil (ww)
  • Slide Grease (br) or Cork Grease (ww)
  • Instrument Cleaning Supplies
  • Reeds (ww) – A Legere Synthetic reed is $20, but one will last all season, and works better in unpredictable conditions than traditional cane reeds
  • 1.5” 3-Ring Binder with 20-50 Clear Plastic Sheet Protectors (non-glare)
  • 3-Ring Pencil Pouch with Highlighters & Mechanical Pencils (so you don’t have to sharpen them in the middle of a football field…)
  • Shoulder Strap for Binder (be creative)
  • Lanyard (any kind will do)
  • One Gallon Water Jug
  • Handheld Water Bottle
  • Anti-Perspirant, Sunscreen, Bug Spray, and Anti-Perspirant (we listed it twice for a reason)
  • Chap Stick (get one with SPF)
  • Body Glide (anti-chafing stick used by runners… it will seriously change your life if your legs rub at all…)
  • Cooling Rag (if desired)
  • Snacks that won’t melt
  • Rain Gear
  • Cross-Training or Running Shoes (not high tops, crocs, sandals, or other things that don’t support your ankle)
  • Athletic Clothing (Shorts and T-Shirts, no denim, think light colors to help fight off the heat)
  • Backpack (if you don’t already have one, it doesn’t have to be a special one for band, it just makes it easier to bring everything to and from different rehearsal areas)
