Bennett Konstans grew up in Aurora, Illinois before attending the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he graduated with honors with a degree in Music Education (BME). While studying at U of I, Bennett also completed classes in Jazz Studies as well as performing with the Marching Illini for all four of his years at Illinois. Bennett also played lead trumpet with the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps during the summers of 2011 & 2012, and has continued to teach in the Drum Corps activity every year since aging out in 2012.
Bennett currently works in Plainfield, Illinois, where he is the Director of Bands at John F. Kennedy Middle School. He also serves as the Visual Caption Head for the Plainfield Central High School Wildcat Marching Band. Additionally, Bennett teaches at Northern Illinois University where he works with the Huskie Marching Band and is the Director of the Huskie Pep Band.
In addition to a busy teaching schedule, Bennett maintains an active and versatile schedule as a trumpet performer. He regularly performs with the Chicago Brass Band, Genuine Brass Quintet, and Andrew Blake Band, as well as performing as a substitute with a wide variety of ensembles in the Chicagoland area, including the Wheaton Municipal Band, Chicago Metropolitain Brass Ensemble, Hip Pockit, Modern Soul, and Groove 54.
Bennett is also an active composer/arranger, and is the staff arranger for the NIU Athletic Bands, Andrew Blake Band, Hip Pockit, and Groove 54. He has also written original music and arranged for many performing ensembles, high schools, and middle schools in the Chicagoland area.
Bennett currently lives in Naperville, Illinois. In his (very scarce) free time, Bennett enjoys traveling, golfing, petting dogs, watching stand-up comedy, and spending time with his friends and family.
