If we haven’t yet met, please stop me at some point to say hi and introduce yourself! I’ve been one of the percussion instructors for the Wildcat Marching Band for the last five years, conducted the pit orchestra for the PCHS production of Wizard of Oz, coordinated Drumapalooza, and taught for the last seven years in our district at John F. Kennedy Middle School. As an alumnus of PCHS, it gives me great excitement to assume the role of Director of Bands. Life is changing very quickly right now, but much of it is for the better! My wife Francesca and I just moved to Plainfield back in April and we’re enjoying the new house and most of the things that go with that! Any time you need to talk, please know that I’m here to help. I’m looking forward to starting my first year of teaching at PCHS and hope to get to know everyone very soon!
Students need to be practicing AND memorizing the first movement of this year’s marching band show: Double Agent! We will be putting drill with music on the very first day of marching band camp (7/30) and students that don’t have their music memorized will struggle when it’s time to move and play. Please help make sure that they’re practicing at home over the next week! Our goal is to have all of the drill and all of the music on the field and give a complete performance of Double Agent at the end of marching band camp (8/10), so putting in the time NOW to memorize will help them have a great camp!
If you’re not familiar with SmartMusic, it’s one of the best practice and assessment tools available today in music education. All wind players (non-percussionists) will need an account for SmartMusic as this is how we will complete playing tests this year. I would like everyone to set up their (new) accounts starting TODAY so that students can use it to practice their marching band music! Every student needs to use a particular format for their username and password (so we can help them remember WHEN they forget this information). Their username needs to be their student ID number and their password should be PCHSBand! (including the exclamation point and capital letters). Our class code for marching band is QHLTP-YYHUE and you can set up a new account by visiting https://admin.smartmusic.com/join.
What is Slack?!?! It's one of the best communication apps out there and we want ALL of our PARENTS AND STUDENTS using it! Slack helps us get the message out to exactly the right group of people based on what 'channels' you've added on your Slack account. Right now, we're using it for marching band, but we also have channels for the staff, booster board, section leaders, and drum majors. Later in the year, we can get messages specifically to people in Jazz Band, or Pep Band, or any of the other ensembles! Our 'workspace' is pchsbands.slack.com and you can sign up with any email address. Click here to get started with Slack!
